Lydia Ko Becomes Youngest Major Winner in LPGA History

Lydia Ko shot a final round 63 Sunday at the Evian Championship to become the youngest major in LPGA history. Ko, who is 18 years, 4 months and 20 days old, eclipsed the old record held my Morgan who was 18 years, 10 months and nine days old when she won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
“To say that I’m the youngest in history for now, it’s so cool,” Ko said. “To finish with two birdies, finish on the last 72nd hole, with a birdie, it doesn’t happen often, so it’s definitely one of the top rounds of my whole entire life, and I’m sure it will be in my career.”
Ko started the day two shots behind 54-hole leader Mi Hyang Lee and one shot behind Lexi Thompson before going on her tear and winning by six. Her 63 in a major is also a new LPGA record for lowest round in a major. She also joins the company of another golfer who once shot 63 in the final round of a major to win (hint: you will see him this weekend on the golf coverage as NBC’s lead analyst).
“Everyone won’t be asking me when I’ll win my first major because it’s done,” said Ko.
Ko continues to re-write what seems like every record in the LPGA Tour record book. She was already the youngest to win a professional golf event, the youngest to win an LPGA event, and the youngest golfer both male and female to reach the top spot in the world rankings. Now, she can add youngest major winner to her arsenal.
